Variety Names Kirstin Wilder International Editor

November 9, 2015

Los Angeles, November 9, 2015: Variety veteran Kirstin Wilder has been named international editor for the global industry trade publication. In her new role, Wilder will work closely with Variety’s international team of reporters in expanding overseas news efforts and increasing the production of film festival show dailies.

Wilder will also identify new opportunities to extend the Variety brand in international markets.

“Kirstin has been a key member of Variety’s management team for many years and has demonstrated that no task is too tough for her,” said co-editors-in-chief Claudia Eller and Andrew Wallenstein. “We believe that under Kirstin’s leadership, our strong international operation and footprint will grow even larger.”

Wilder began her career at Variety 23 years ago as a copy editor and rose through the ranks to become senior editor and since 2011, V.P. and managing editor.

In addition to her vast news editing experience, Wilder has managed Variety’s editorial financial budgets, overseen travel and expense reports, negotiated and implemented contracts with photo and news agencies and helped develop a successful year-round intern program.

Most recently, she was instrumental in managing the integration of Variety’s new partnership with photo agency Shutterstock into the newsroom operations.

In addition to her new international duties, Wilder will retain editing responsibilities for the magazine’s Exposure, FaceTime and Dirt sections.

Prior to joining Variety in 1992, Wilder worked at the News Chronicle of Thousand Oaks, Calif. as state editor, and before that as business desk copy editor at the News-Press in Fort Myers, Fla. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln which named her as a College of Journalism outstanding alumni in February.

Her other professional activities include teaching journalism workshops to college students at the Manaki Bros. Film Festival in Bitola, Macedonia, at the request of the U.S. State Department, and participating in USC’s Annenberg Innovation Lab.
